An absolutely amazing stay at the Pinegrove Hotel in Carlisle! The staff were exceptionally lovely and super helpful from the moment we arrived. It is fantastic to see the hotel undergoing such a beautiful upgrade while still perfectly maintaining the original character and charm of the building. To top it all off, the breakfast was simply lovely. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and highly recommend it!

I’ll start with the positives, the sheets and towels were clean.
The rest was awful. I will never stay in an independent hotel again. Hilton all the way from now.

Stay away!!

Unfortunately could not give zero stars..
Awful place. Dirty, unkempt, broken shower, uncomfortable mattress, unhelpful and sullen staff. Definitely not worth the money - we wouldn’t be paid to stay there again. Avoid at all costs!

An unforgettable stay — unfortunately, not for the right reasons
I was genuinely impressed by the photographs of the Pinegrove Hotel online. Unfortunately, it turns out I had been catfished by hotel photography. The reality is considerably less glamorous.
The hotel is dated, which I actually wouldn't have minded. Character is one thing; however, dirt is another.
The room was filthy. There were cobwebs in both the bedroom and bathroom, and the beds clearly hadn't been properly cleaned. I found what appeared to be pubic hairs on both beds, which was a lovely little extra that definitely wasn't mentioned in the booking description. For bedding that was meant to have been washed and pressed, the mystery of the public hair is a gift that keeps on giving. 
Under one of the mattresses I also found suicide-prevention leaflets. I'm not sure whether these were meant to be reassuring or simply a reminder that previous guests had also questioned their life choices.
The carpet was so grimy that my white socks went in one colour and came out another. I foolishly walked around the room in them, and in the morning the soles were essentially a geological record of the carpet.
I decided against taking a shower because I wasn't convinced the shower would actually improve my situation. There was mould between the tiles, filthy grout, marked towels and two spiders apparently claiming the bath as their permanent residence. At least somebody was enjoying their stay.

Abysmal Place (Avoid at all costs)

WTF… It’s like being transported back to the 1960s only with everything falling apart and a serious hygiene disaster thrown in. I’ve stayed in some pretty ropey hotels over the years, but this one really takes the biscuit.
Avoid at all costs. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Absolutely dire in every possible way.
