Courtyard view with balcony is a must

My 5* wife and I stayed in the Grands Boulevards Experimental in Paris for 3 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. On arrival, we were 2 hours early for check in and so we left our bags and headed off to explore Paris. On our return our bags had been placed in the room and there was a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting. The well appointed and stylishly decorated room was on the small side, but this is something I am told to be expected in central Paris. We had upgraded to a courtyard view room with balcony where we particularly enjoyed drinking a glass or two of champagne in the evening. We opted for the Parisian breakfast (fruit juice, tea or coffee and a selection of viennoiseries) over the buffet on two mornings, but if you are looking to load up for the day, the buffet did look excellent. The Paris Metro stop Grande Boulevards is conveniently 20m from the front door, and there is also a Franprix supermarket 20m in the other direction for beer, wine, chocolate and pastries for the room. All round a perfect base for exploring romantic Paris.

Low service standards

The service not even remotely matches the price level. On day 1, the wifi was down. I received a drinks voucher, thanks, but in this category I would rather expect on site IT supporter fixing the issue. On all days except the last, breakfast staff only arrived 15-20 minutes after breakfast started. A bootle of champagne was given as a compensation, thanks, again I’d rather expect the issue to be addressed.

Room category might define your stay

I think much will depend on what you are looking for and the room you get.
Pros: incredibly central location, there is a metro right outside the hotel as well as bus, but much is walkable. The room I had was gorgeous, up in the attic part (an eaves room), it felt incredibly spacious, his and her sinks, a full closet, mini bar, Nespresso machine, tea kettle, free water and bathtub. Great bedding as already mentioned. The windows were relatively sound proof and I did not hear anyone in the hall. There is a cute airy bar/restaurant in the atrium with lots of light. Housekeeping was excellent and the little touches like turn down were much appreciated. Almost everyone at reception was very friendly.
Cons: Not their fault, central Grands Boulevard is a rather ugly big street and there is a great deal of traffic. If you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs because there are still sirens etc. Minor con, non Nespresso capsules (just a pet peeve of mine). There are no amenities in the hotel, no spa, no gym, and as someone mentioned, not really a lobby either save a few benches that you can sit on and you might not want to sit there for long as, 1. you are by the door, and people are in and out for the restaurant who are not staying at the hotel.
Green points: water container is recyclable, I believe coffee capsules were the compostable type, you can hang your towel so that it is not refreshed, the toiletries are attached to the wall (although cons to the hygiene of this), and there was a bin for recycling.
But I got an excellent price in the middle of winter so I think the comfort of the room (which I have just been told is one level below the junior suite category) was way worth what I paid. I did not try the breakfast so I cannot comment on that. But if the price was significantly higher I am not sure the lack of amenities or even the lack of lobby would be enough to stay again.

Most impressive was the quiet in the morning and evening, even though the room fronted on the Grand Boulevards - set back a tad, but quand même impressionnant. A feeling if of privacy but ready to party at the bay or resto. Clean, spacious. A bit of a snaking route to my room with obatacles. Very pleasant staff - what happened to the snobby French staff?also location was ideal between the north (Montmartre, eg, and centre-ville et rive gauche - especially with the easy Uber-Lime bicycles and excellent bike highways. A new Paris!

The hotel staff is so friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and really large in size. Such beautiful decor both in the room and the hotel in general. Great location on a main street which has lots of restaurants, shops and people. Catching uber or the train here is very convenient. Would absolutely recommend this hotel and I’d stay here again no doubt about it.
