Sapporo City will implement an accommodation tax starting April 1, 2026. The rates are as follows: Tiered Tax - Per person, per night: JPY 0 ≤ Room Rate < JPY 20,000. Tax: JPY 300. JPY 20,000 ≤ Room Rate < JPY 50,000. Tax: JPY 400. JPY 50,000 and above. Tax: JPY 1,000. This represents the combined Hokkaido and Sapporo City accommodation taxes. Please inquire at the hotel front desk for details. Hokkaido will begin levying an accommodation tax from April 1, 2026. The tax is calculated per person per night based on the accommodation cost, with the following rates:Less than 20,000 JPY → 100 JPY; 20,000 JPY to less than 50,000 JPY → 200 JPY; 50,000 JPY or more → 500 JPY. In addition, individual cities and municipalities may impose their own local accommodation tax, ranging from 100 to 2,000 JPY per person per night, on top of the Hokkaido tax.The accommodation cost includes the room fee and service fee, but excludes food and beverage expenses as well as consumption tax. Please note that some room rates do not include the accommodation tax; in such cases, the tax must be paid separately at the front desk.
