Complimentary bottle of water was nearly empty, only one of the 4 pillows had a cover, unfortunately only realised in the morning, so didn’t dare check the bed.
Such a shame as with a little more care would be a nice place to stay

Great staff and owners. Very welcoming. Property is dirty and scruffy in the communal areas/outside. Needs a tidy up and regular maintenance/cleaning.
Would stay again due to service and food

Poor customer service and expierence

Extremely disappointing experience at the Exeter Inn.
I booked a table for 10 people a month in advance as part of my hen weekend and specifically confirmed the lunch menu advertised on the website. When we arrived, no table had been prepared for us and we were simply told to "sit anywhere", meaning we had to rearrange tables ourselves to fit the group.
After ordering drinks and food, we were eventually informed that the chef had not arrived and there was nobody available to cook. This wasn't mentioned when we arrived or even when our orders were taken. We were left trying to find an alternative venue before being told nearly an hour after arrival that the chef had finally turned up.
The menu provided also didn't match the menu advertised online, and some items listed on the menu weren't actually available. Despite being told our food would take around 10 minutes once the chef arrived, we waited much longer. The food was average at best, appeared rushed, and unfortunately two members of our group were unwell afterwards.
To top it off, we had to chase staff for the bill ourselves, there was no apology, no discount offered despite the poor service, and a service charge was added to the bill.
I appreciate the waitress was doing her best in a difficult situation, but the lack of management, organisation and communication was unacceptable. For an event I had carefully planned and booked in advance, this was a huge let-down.
What is even more disappointing is the way my formal complaint was handled afterwards. Several days later I received a brief response asking for my phone number so they could call me. I explained that I wanted a written response so there would be a clear paper trail. Since then, I have received no further communication whatsoever—no apology, no explanation, and no response to the concerns I raised, including why lunch service is advertised from 12pm when the chef did not arrive until 12:49pm.
Poor service is one thing, but poor customer service and a complete lack of accountability afterwards is even worse. I would not return or recommend.
Also have ducks crammed into a small cage outside. Look completed neglected. Have seen several reviews regarding this, the person responding seems to apologise and state they’ll do something about it, yet they are still there being contained, night and day, inhumanly.

Not great

I’m not one for giving a bad review but feel I should in this case. Really average roast dinner for the price, both in quality and quantity. They ran out of beef half way through service but the full menu was still on the board and not mentioned when we got there. Chicken was a cooked chicken breast not roast chicken and had to remind them of the extras we ordered. Some staff not overly friendly or helpful and saw the chefs wiping the sweat off his face with his T-shirt which was quite off putting. Would not go back.

Dear Trudy,
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that your visit didn't live up to expectations.
We apologise for the disappointment caused by the beef selling out and for the issues you experienced with your meal and service. We always aim to provide good quality food and friendly service, so we are disappointed to hear that this wasn't reflected during your visit.
Your comments have been passed onto the management team and will be discussed with staff to ensure improvements are made where needed.
Thank you again for your feedback.
